Our Newfoundlands are trained in the art of Water Rescue as they were bred to do! They absolutely love the water and become so excited when they know they are going swimming. Their double coat and webbed feet help to make them the very powerful swimmers that they are famous for. We train most weekends in various lakes and practice all sorts of water rescue with the dogs. These include jumping out of boats, towing boats in, rescuing drowning people by swimming out and taking out life rings/lifebuoys to them and towing them in to shore, and having lots of fun at the same time! We enter tests throughout the summer that are put on through the Working Newfoundland Club. The tests start at Level 1 and the highest is Level 3. Once a dog achieves Level 3 they are awarded their Water Distinction Title.
